Wally Clench October 1, 1960 - May 8, 2026

Walwyn “Wally” Clench lost his battle with cancer and passed away at his home in Clarenville on May 8, 2026 at the age of 65 years.

He is predeceased by his parents, Alexander & Ruby Clench, his sister Jessie Marshall, as well as many other close family members.

Left with fond and loving memories are his brother, Austin Clench (Lynda) of Alliston, Ontario; Sheila Strong of St. John’s;  Audra Strong (Leonard) of Clarenville and their families, along with a large circle of family and friends including his VERY SPECIAL friends, Justin and Dominique Soper, Rob Dean “B”(as Wally liked to call him), Ross McGrath, and Donny Strong, with whom he loved to have a game of crib!

Wally was raised in Shoal Harbour and went on to join the Canadian Armed Forces where he served from 1982 to 1992 as an Integral Systems Technician, ranking to Master Corporal.  He was based in several places throughout the country.  After making the decision to leave his military career, he moved back home for a few years and then moved to Alberta for work.  After Covid hit, Wally felt the need to leave Alberta so he moved to Ontario for only a short time and then decided he wanted to make a permanent move back home to Newfoundland, which is where he has been for the past five years or so.  His battle with lung cancer started in 2024, for which he underwent several modalities of treatment, but unfortunately lost that battle.

Wally was a pretty quiet guy who lived a very simple life.  He loved, as mentioned, to get together with his buddies and play a game of crib.

As per Wally’s wishes, cremation has taken place with a private burial at a later date.

Very saddened to hear the news of Walwyn’s passing. As is far too often the case within family circles these days, I am sorry to say that I really did not know him , with my only memory being of him as a small child. Looking at the photo with the cod fish both Donna and I were surprised to see his resemblance to our Uncle Ed.
Austin, Audra, Sheila and families please accept our heartfelt condolences.
