It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sea Captain Howard Saul Penney, a beloved husband, brother, uncle and friend to many. His presence was as commanding as the ocean he loved. He lived a life filled with adventure, laughter and unwavering love for those closest to him. His larger than life personality, generous heart and unforgettable spirit left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to know him.
Born on Tack’s Beach, Newfoundland, Howards family settled in Arnolds Cove where he spent his childhood. Later moving to St. John’s but frequently loved to visit home.
Howards love of the ocean led him to a career as a Sea Captain where he navigated ships for many years.
Leaving to mourn his loving wife June Penney and their fur babies Ocean and Nigel. Brothers John (Shelia), Rex, Tone (Bev) and sister Dawn (Larry). His nieces and nephews especially Jason Penney and Christopher Dyke, in-laws, neighbours, and friends both near and far. His great nephew and niece, Jaxson and Tanika also held a very special place in his heart.
Howard was pre-deceased by his parents Ernest and Emma Penney, his sisters Jacqueline (Sis) and Debrorah Penney, and brother Brian Penney.
Some people have a presence so large, a spirit so unforgettable, and a love so deeply felt that when they leave this world, it is forever changed. Howard was one of those people.
The family would like to thank all the nurses on 6West and doctors at St. Clare’s Hospital for their exceptional care.
