For the rest of my teaching career,my school garb included a shirt, tie, AND jacket, the way it was done at St. Michael’s.I still remember spending the night with the Jackman’s after getting stuck on the nearby big hill trying to get back to the boarding house (Mrs. Wareham’s) in Arnold’s Cove. My condolences to all the family,

March 10, 2020 at 11:18 amUncle Harvey was more than a great uncle to me. He was like a grandfather. I would hide his keys and put strawberries in shoes to stop him from leaving me when I was little. I know it was his time, and he has been reunited with Nan and all his brothers, but it doesn’t stop the hurt. My heart breaks that I cannot be there to support you all through this time. How do you say good bye to one of the best?

March 10, 2020 at 3:55 pmSome people come into your life and leave a lasting impression. When I was in elementary school, Mr. Jackman was my principal. He had such a compassionate and caring heart that when he saw a little girl who was so upset over the loss of her cat, he sent her home. I saw him a couple of times at the airport over the years and got to repay his kindness. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. ❤️

I quit school for two weeks in my graduating year but Harvey Jackman walked to my home and convinced me to complete my high school education. He told me that I could be anything I want. That gave me the confidence to do exactly that. I’ve since graduated from four colleges and achieved freedom 55 with so much gratitude to Mr. Jackman. God bless you, Sir. Curt Barrett, Class of 1981.

March 11, 2020 at 10:38 pmOur prayers for Roma and family. About 6 years ago I get a call out of nowhere. It was Harvey encouraging me in my endeavours. Always positive. That was Harvey.
Two years later I dropped in to see him and was welcomed with love and laughter despite his diagnosis. That was Harvey.
He cherished his family. And loved and appreciated his staff and students. That was Harvey.
Fear not. Oh, death where is thy sting? Oh grave where is thy victory? Harvey is alive eternally with Christ. That IS Harvey.

March 20, 2020 at 11:13 amSincere sympathy to Harvey’s family at this time of sadness. Harvey was my principal for the year (1970-71 I think) that I was a high school teacher in Arnold’s Cove. I will never forget his kind guidance, humour, and support as I tried to find my way as a new teacher. I remember him as always respectful to his staff, students, and their parents.
Harvey became a bright light in my dad’s (Eldred) encounters with him in Clarenville, sharing yarns, jokes, political opinions, and news about common friends. I believe those times were joyful to them both.
Harvey’s kindness, positive encouragement, and friendship were an inspiration to many he encountered. Cherish your memories to help you along this difficult time.
