It is with broken hearts that the family of Don Spurrell of Hillview announces his sudden passing on April 17 at the age of 62 years.

Don was a devoted husband, father, and son. He will be forever remembered by the love of his life, Pauline, wife and eternal soulmate; their son, Andrew (Melissa); mother, Florence; brothers: Stewart (Wanda), and Derrick (Joy); father-in-law, Eugene Snow; sister-in-law, Wanda (Mike) Curtis; nieces: Sarah and Rebeca Spurrell,  Danielle (Brandyn) Morrison and Chelsea Allen; nephews: Ryan Spurrell, Colby and Brendon Curtis; great-nephews: Grayson and Oliver Morrison; chosen family: April, Justin, Kendra, Mallory and Jordyn; Godson: Kelton; and a large circle of relatives, friends, and associates across Newfoundland, as well as in Inuvik, NWT, where he lived with his family from 1995-2000.

Don is predeceased by his Father, Jonah Spurrell (2015); Mother-in-law, Betty Snow (2019).

Don grew up in Come-by-Chance and attended school in Come-by-Chance and Sunnyside. He studied at the College of Trades and Technology and went on to become an architectural technologist and senior project manager for Fougere Menchenton Architecture. He is well-known within his profession for his design work and meticulous craftsmanship.

Don loved boating and the ocean. When he wasn’t on the water, you could find him in the woods hunting, trouting, or cutting wood. He had a passion for woodworking and built two remote cabins and the beautiful home in Hillview overlooking the water that he shared with his beloved family.

Cremation will take place.

Family and friends are welcome to visit and share their memories at Fewer’s Funeral Home in Clarenville. A date and time will be announced later this week.

Don was a charitable man. In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations be made to any charity you hold close to your heart.

It was a great pleasure to get to know Don for the last year on our Arichat project. His dedication, professionalism, and “can-do” attitude was admirable.

I hope that Don’s loved ones have lots of good memories of him to cherish. My thoughts are with them during this difficult time.

To Pauline, Stewart, Florence & Family:
Our hearts ache for you. Don was a wonderful person. We spent countless hours fishing with our Dad’s in Placentia Bay as young boys and later met down south on vacation and what great conversations we had.
You are in our thoughts and prayers-take care.
