Daniel Maloney June 18, 1937 - April 2, 2024

Passed away at Dr. G B Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, Daniel Maloney of Sweet Bay, age 86 years.  Predeceased by his parents Daniel and Blanche Maloney; son-in-law Gerard Drover; brothers Leo, Fred (Sadye) and Cyril; sister Marie Halleran (Clarence) and sister-in-law Agnes Maloney.  Left with fond and loving memories are his wife of 58 years, Louise (nee Legge) Maloney; children Danette Flynn (Roy), Darlene Drover, Leona Harding (Shawn), Irene Thomson (Robert), Michelle Vokey (Dwayne) and Danny Maloney (Jen); 16 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister Nellie Maloney; brothers Ignatius Maloney (Angela) and Matthew Maloney (Vera); sisters-in-law Dorothy Maloney and Cecilia Maloney; nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Dan was a kind, gentle man with a dry sense of humor, sometimes only appreciated by a fellow Maloney.  He was married 58 years to Louise, his wife, his partner, his best friend.  Together they were a dynamic duo.  He worked 31 years at Wabush mines in Labrador until his retirement in 1999.  In his retirement he got to enjoy his favorite things.  He loved being on the water, taking his boat out for a run or out fishing.  He also loved the peace and solitude of taking his 4 wheeler for long rides in the woods.  He was a man who took pride in providing for his family.  He loved his children dearly but he absolutely adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and treasured every second he spent with them.

Visitation will be held 7 – 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at the Roman Catholic Church, Sweet Bay.  Funeral mass to take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024 at the Roman Catholic Church, Sweet Bay with interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Sweet Bay.

    Aunt Louise and Family,
My heart is broken for all of you. I know what a wonderful man Uncle Dan was and how much he loved each and every one of you. I would love your yearly trips from Wabush when you would always stop at our house in Gander along the way. Uncle Dan did have that dry sense of humor that was and is a wonderful family trait that has been pass down too many of us. How bless you were and are to have had such a wonderful person in your lives, he will never be forgotten. I have not doubt he is up there now with Uncle Leo, Uncle Fred, Aunt Marie and Dad along with Nanny and Poppy laughing and showing that great sense of humor. God bless you all and I am thinking about you during this difficult time..

I worked with Dan at Wabush Mines. He was one of the best heavy equipment operators we had. A true gentleman and a pleasure to work with. RIP Dan.
