It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Sandra Soper (née King), originally from Happy Adventure and later of North West Brook, who passed away on October 4, 2026, at the age of 76.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of love and memories is her devoted husband of 59 years, Nelson; her children Yvette (Ed), Tracy (Ray), Trevor, and Dawn (Melissa); her grandchildren Devin (Julie), Tyler (Christina), Noah, Finn, Maya, Bella and Jubilee; and her great-grandchildren Kai and Reya. She also leaves to mourn her sister Bonnie; brothers George and Dann; as well as many extended family members and friends.
Sandra was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Blanche King; brothers Bill and Donald; sisters Leona and Iris; and her beloved grandson Brayden.
Mom loved to sing, and there was rarely a shortage of music around the house. Sometimes all it took was for someone to say a particular word and she would have a song or little ditty to go with it. She loved her game shows and had an uncanny ability to know the answers, no matter which show she was watching, something she credited in part to her love of crosswords.
She was an avid collector of recipes, particularly for baked goods, and while considerably more recipes were collected than actually made, quite a few did make it into the kitchen. Anything orange-flavoured was especially likely to catch her eye. She loved a good bowl of soup, a chat on the phone, and staying connected with her family. FaceTime became a regular part of life, giving her plenty of opportunities to chat with her children and grandchildren.
Sandra was an active member of her church community for many years and was well known and well liked in North West Brook. Her phone rang often, and she always seemed to have someone to talk to.
She and Nelson shared 59 years of marriage and a lifetime of experiences together, including many early mornings spent heading out in the boat to catch their fish. More than anything, though, Sandra loved her family. She was funny, incredibly stubborn, deeply loved, and completely herself.
The silence she leaves behind will take some getting used to. We will miss her songs, her phone calls, her answers shouted at the television, her stubbornness, her stories, and simply knowing she was there. She leaves us with a lifetime of memories, and we will carry her with us always.
Resting at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville on Thursday, October 8 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service Friday, October 9 2:00 p.m. at the Fewer’s Memorial Chapel, Clarenville with interment to follow at the North West Brook United Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandra’s memory may be made to the North West Brook United Church Cemetery Fund.
