It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Nathan Guy Bailey on March 3, 2026, after a long battle with cancer.
Nathan graduated from Clarenville High in 1993 and went on to pursue a B. F.A. in Fine Arts in 1997 from the Grenfell Campus of Memorial University. He went on to instruct snowboarding at Whistler, B.C. and White Hills Resort, Clarenville. Nathan taught English as a Second Language in Korea from 2002-2004. Nathan continued his education by pursuing a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology from CNA; he worked with the Barry Group of Clarenville, NARL in Come by Chance and was most recently an employee of IMTT-NTL in Arnold’s Cove.
Nathan leaves to mourn his wife, Stacy Bailey, two children, Violet and Vincent, mom, Kathryn Small, dad, Geoffrey Bailey, sister, Natasha Bailey (David Harty), brother Nicholas Bailey (Inga Smith-Bailey), nephews and nieces (Elliott, Lily, Etain, Julia, Alex), parents-in-law, Alphonsus and Sylvia Walsh, sister-in-law Stephanie Walsh (Jay Martin), uncles Sidney Small (Beverly), George Small (Suzanne) and John Small, aunts Christine Small, Jessie Fleming, Jocelyn Rice (Gary), Corrine Moore (Paul), many cousins, special friends Lewis Reid, Trevor Durant, Jay Adams, Paul Drodge and Steve Colbourne, AKA The Pork Riblets, and a large circle of family and friends.
The family is so grateful for all of the heartfelt condolences, food, and gifts of remembrance already received. Thanks for compassion and support are extended to Dr. Blaine Pearce, Dr. Dawson and the Oncology Clinic, staff and nurses and the ER & Diagnostic Imaging staff at Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Dr. Joy Greenland, Management and staff at IMTT- NTL: International Marine Matex tank terminal – Newfoundland Transport Limited.
Visitation will follow cremation at 1-4 pm on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Fewers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or White Hills Resort. An endowment is being created at White Hills to support future riders.
As a small child, Nathan found such enjoyment in the world around him; a joie de vivre his parents often said. His passion for many things in life helped carve the boy he once was into the man we know and have grown to love.
Often seen with a charismatic smile while doing the things he loved, whether it be skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, or picking at Volkswagens at the rental, Nathan always committed his full attention to his passions and found great joy in passing on his love of these things. Nathan instructed snowboarding at Whistler BC, directed the snow school at White Hills resort and taught Stacy, Violet and Vincent to snowboard and surf. Sharing his passions was always more enjoyable when he could pass on his knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm to others, especially those he loved. He was always focused on the journey and not the destination.
Nathan was a world traveller from a small child travelling with his family to follow his parents’ careers and finally settling back in Clarenville in 1988. Nathan lived in Whistler BC and instructed snowboarding, traveled to Korea to teach English, and to Australia and New Zealand to surf and snowboard with friends he had made while in BC. After starting their family, Nathan and Stacy continued to adventure with their children to Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and Australia. He felt a love of travel and exploration was of utmost importance to pass on to his children.
Through Nathan‘s broad spectrum of talents and interest, from art to vehicles to outdoor sports, he has made innumerable friends that will remember him fondly. Stacy, Violet, and Vincent are truly thankful for all of the amazing family members and friends who have become family through Nathan’s love.
No friends on a pow day!

March 4, 2026 at 7:16 pmIt is heart breaking that a life so fully lived has ended at the hands of a cruel disease. I know that Nathan fought his cancer with the same energy he poured into his life. I wish I had been more present in his life. When he was young, I picked on him at every opportunity, as uncles often do, simply because we can get away with it. But Nathan was a good sport. He enjoyed the attention, laughing like a kid who feels safe and protected. He was intuitive. He knew it wasn’t coming from a dark place. Just adopting him into the old boys club. Nathan’s supportive family and his countless number of friends stand as a permanent reminder of the impact he had on their lives. Rest in peace, kind sir.

March 4, 2026 at 9:23 pmDeepest condolences to all the family during these terrible times! Nathan was as great a co-worker as anyone could ask to have! I will remember our conversations at the terminal, both serious and foolish! When it comes to leading by example and the power of positivity, Nathan’s unwavering optimism throughout his fight was truly remarkable. I guess it goes without saying, he was a great man, gone to soon. We will miss him. Take care.

March 5, 2026 at 4:48 pmI haven’t seen Nathan in a few years, but we spent a lot of time together when we were younger. He was a great guy and always a lot of fun to be around. I’m really glad our kids and families had the chance to meet each other.
One memory that always sticks with me is when we went to provincials in Rocky Harbour for a musical and the teacher told us not to sing—just move our lips. We laughed about that one for a long time.
My condolences to Nathan’s family. I can’t imagine the hole he’s left behind, but I know the memories and the impact he had on people will carry on.
