With broken hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Helen Baker on August 31st, 2026 at GB Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville at the age of 77 years.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Vernon Baker, parents Hedley and Josephine Letto, brother Gary Letto, sister-in-law Annette Letto, sister-in-law Olive Baker, and brother-in-law Wallace Baker.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her two children whom she loved most in the world – Stephen (Ginger Walters) and Kim. Her sisters Lena (Romuald) and Clara-Ann (Lionel); brothers Eric, Neilson (Marcelline), Rene (Denise), Manual (Vivianne) ,and Guy; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Never one for large crowds, Helen was perfectly happy in the company of a few good friends, enjoying the quiet moments that truly mattered. Despite losing the love of her life in 2004, and a series of health challenges that followed there-after, she continued to face whatever life put in her path. Helen was always there for her children, putting their wants and needs above all else. She was a devoted mother who loved them with her whole heart and soul.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation to take place promptly. Visitation will take place Thursday, September 10th, from 1pm to 4pm and 6pm to 9pm followed by a Celebration of Life on Friday, September 11th at 2pm at the Fewer’s Memorial Chapel. Inurnment to take place on a future date to be determined in Blanc Sablon, Quebec.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Helen’s memory to the Discovery Health Care Foundation, Feral Felines Rescue & Rehabilitation or a charity of one’s choosing.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to a number of people over the years who helped care for Mom. First, the staff of Clarenville Dialysis Unit for their kindness and dedication over the past 17 years. Total Care Homecare Services, with a special thank-you to all the home support workers who helped care for mom over the years with special mention to Susan, Amy, Bonnie and most recently Sarah for their compassion and hard work. Finally thank-you to Dr. Gordon Stockwell for his ongoing professionalism and empathy.
