    Velma, Leroy, Charlotte and family,,
So sorry to hear of Hectors passing. He will be truly missed but leaves us with memories that will last a lifetime. His smile always warmed my heart and hearing him ask “how’s Leiane today” make me chuckle ever time. You will be truly missed and I can’t imagine going to a dart shoot out and not seeing your left handed missile throw. Rest In Peace. May the sharing of memories over the next few days help with this difficult time.

Being townie, academic and FRA, I did not have the privilege of knowing a true Newfoundlander until I met Hector in the summer of 2019. Aphrodite and I kayaked to Loreburn for a place to camp for the night and I asked the first man on a quad if he knew Leroy’s father. (Leroy and I met through work.) The man was Hector! He telephoned Leroy to find who I was, and then one thing after another, Aphrodite and I were “adopted” by Velma and Hector.

I remember Hector’s calls from his cabin to our tent at the point for morning coffee; many hot meals after our kayaking trips, his sawmill, his salted cod and his stories: growing up at Loreburn, the old general store, and first time he brought Velma to Loreburn …

Hector will live on forever in our memory.
