After a long and extraordinarily healthy life, Mabel Hookey (nee Bannister) passed away peacefully in Golden Heights Manor, Bonavista, NL, on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. Predeceased by her parents, George and Edith Bannister, her brothers Raymond, Richard and George Bannister and her husband Otto A. Hookey, Mabel leaves behind her daughter Marilyn, son Graham (Donna), grandchildren Brad (Jess), Erica (Edward), Garrett, Cameron and Mitchell and great-grandchildren Julie, Emily, Sammy and Mikey.
As a young woman Mabel taught in both Rocky Harbour and Fogo Island. She was a devoted mother and an active volunteer in St. James Church in St. Catharines, ON, a responsible and grounded influence on all of those around her. She lived a long, healthy and blessed life.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Clarenville Retirement Centre, the Bonavista PCU, and Golden Heights Manor for their kind and gentle care of her for the last twelve years.
Mabel’s ashes will be interred with Otto at the Port Rexton Cemetery in the summer of 2024.
