It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Yvonne Orla Loder at the GB Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville at the age of 74 on October 22 after a hard fought battle with the dreaded disease of ALS. She passed three and a half months after the official ALS diagnosis.
She is predeceased by, her father Cecil, mother Evelyn, infant brother Dale, sisters Rosalind (Jonas) Newhook and Dallas Gilbert, brother-in-law Harvey Slade. Left to mourn with loving memories are, husband Leland of 55 years. Her children, James (Renee) and Kathy Beck (Rodney); grandchildren, Jordan Snow (John), Jesse Beck (Hilary), Lacie Beck and Hannah Loder (Nick). Great grandchildren, Emerson Beck, Harper Lee Alley, and Harley Morgan Alley; sister Maxine Slade; brother Ewart (Sandra); sister-in-law, Phyllis Eddy (Ron); brothers-in-law, Edmund (Sandra) and Rodney (Lori); as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Yvonne was born and raised on Woody Island and moved to North Harbour during the 1960’S resettlement. She spent much of her working career in the restaurant service industry which she enjoyed and where she made many lasting friends. She took great pride in and enjoyed the many family meals and gatherings in her home at Christmas time and on special occasions until she became too ill.
She had a heart of gold and thirty years ago she gave the gift of life to her youngest sister in the form of a kidney donation, of which she was most proud.
Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren where her pride and joy. She was their greatest advocate, always with lots of encouragement and support. Her memory will live on in them.
She was a kind and caring person and was known as “aunt wan” to some of her nieces and “nanny” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a person of faith and was spiritually grounded.
Among her hobbies were ceramics and quilting.
Many thanks to her home care worker Mabel Whalen who cared for Yvonne during her final days and to good friend Ann Gilbert. As well, the family is grateful for the visits, phone calls, support, care and compassion from the Eastern Health staff during her illness.
At her request there will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place. A private family internment of ashes will take place at a later time.
If one wishes to make a donation in her memory it can be made to the North Harbour UC Cemetery fund.
The best portion of a good person’s life: the little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love.
