Vanessa Alexander of Come by Chance, NL aged 53 years, passed away tragically on Thursday, January 26th, 2023. Left with fond and loving memories her partner of 9 years, Darlene Gale. Her daughter, Kayla (Andrew); stepdaughters, Autumn and Jasmine; her parents, Herman and Isabel Lockyer; sister Valerie and brother Jason; nephews Brendan and Cole; niece Brooke; her fur baby Dixie; and many loved ones.
Vanessa was raised in Whitbourne and was educated as a medical laboratory technologist. She moved to Stephenville in 1992 to pursue her career at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital and made the town her home; welcoming her daughter Kayla into the world in 2001, meeting her partner in love and life, Darlene in 2013 and building a large circle of hard tickets she called friends.
Vanessa and Darlene moved to Come by Chance in 2020 to be closer to her parents Herman and Isabel. She accepted a new position at GB Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville and settled into a comfortable life on the East Coast.
Vanessa was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her time with her daughter, stepdaughters, and was excitedly anticipating her upcoming new role as a grandmother.
Family and friends were Vanessa’s passion and all those that loved her helped her thoroughly enjoy her life to the fullest. She was quick witted, creative, and always found a way to make those around her laugh and feel appreciated.
Vanessa always marched to the beat of her own drum. She loved to spend time with her daughter Kayla, fish with her Aunt Row, pick berries with her partner Darlene, cruise on her motorcycle and work away at endless DIY projects around their house.
Cremation to take place visitation will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 1-4 P.M.with a small family service to be held at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Arnold’s Cove, on Thursday, February 2, 2023. In her memory donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

We shared laughs, hard days of work but her smiles laughs and work ethic was the best! Knowing you were working with a wonderful coworker made the worse days in the ER that much easier. It’s a different and special bond to share. It is truly a tragic loss! Sometimes it’s so hard to see the sense in these life tragic moments. I remember Vanessa very fondly from the days of our youth in Whitbourne. Vanessa, her sister Valerie and later her brother, Jason took the school bus many a morning just up the road from the Lockyer home.
Always, always a happy and fun person to be around. She was just as good as gold and so sweet.
I am not at all surprised that Vanessa made strong relationships wherever she went.
