Hazel “Phyllis” Baggs passed peacefully away in the presence of her family at Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital on June 17, 2022. Phyllis was born in St. John’s on March 4, 1929 to John and Norah Stowe. Following her father’s death the family moved to Clarenville. It was in Clarenville she met and married Chesley Baggs. Together they raised their six children. While Phyllis didn’t work outside the home, she worked hard to ensure her children, family and friends had all they needed. She was active in her community and church until she could no longer do so due to physical mobility issues. One of her great loves was attending church which only stopped during the pandemic. However, she continued to enjoy online services on her ipad. Anyone who had the pleasure and blessing of knowing her loved her humour and quick wit. Phyllis always loved to have family and friends visit and chat.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents John & Norah Stowe; brothers Doug, Reginald, Gerald Bob; daughter in law Brenda; son in law Doug and husband of 72 years, Chesley. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her sons Dexter (Dianne), Bob (Millicent), Scott (Judy); daughters Sherrill (Calvin), Dale (Kevin), Valerie; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter; sister Joan (Ray): sister in law Evelyn and a large circle of family and friends. The family wish to thank special friends Eugene and Lorraine, Sandy and Jeanette, Monique (who provided loving care daily), Sandra (Sis) and Marge. At Phyllis’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitations will take place at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville on Monday, June 20, 2022 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A Memorial Service will be held 2:30 PM on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Fewer’s Memorial Chapel, Clarenville with interment at the Pleasant Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted to the Salvation Army Clarenville Building Fund.
A last thought from Phyllis to all: Philippians 4:13 NIV “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength”.
