Phyllis Denty January 7, 1946 - January 9, 2026

Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G.B Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville, NL on January 9, 2026, aged 80 years.

Predeceased by her parents Dominic and Mary-Ann Blackmore, her sister Betty Pardy and her nephew Lloyd Pardy.

Left with fond memories are her husband of 56 years, Fred Denty, her children Stephanie Muise (Jason), and Stephen Denty, grandchildren Charlotte and Philip Muise, nephew Glenn Pardy (Annie), niece Gail Leonard (Darren), and their son Bailey Leonard, and a large circle of family and friends.

Originally from Little Bay East, NL, Phyllis Denty settled in Clarenville with a focus on her family and her community. In these earlier years, she gave graciously of her time to several community groups and organizations.

As her children grew older, Phyllis embarked on a lengthy career in the retail sector, most notably spending 22 years with Carlton Cards. In local and regional roles, she travelled extensively across Atlantic Canada contributing to the operational well-being of several stores across four provinces.

Phyllis enjoyed many hobbies and passions over the years, but her absolute favourites were curling and her Toronto Blue Jays.

Phyllis loved her family and was a foundation of support for them in all endeavors they embarked on.  She knew no greater joy than helping them, took immense pride in their successes, and was a rock during their moments of struggle.  A devoted grandmother, her love and admiration for her two grandchildren was her shining light.  She was ever-present on their journey from children to amazing young adults and enjoyed many family vacations with them over the years.

Her light was also shared with a close-knit circle of friends who formed a valuable bond with her over the years, and the family thanks them for their unwavering support.

Phyllis’ focus on the well-being of others was always her defining trait.  That devotion was clear to us all and will resonate for many years to come.

The family would like to thank the team at the Dr. G.B Cross Memorial Hospital for their compassion and professional care in her final days.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 7 – 9 p.m. and Tuesday, January 13 from 10 a.m. – Noon.  Funeral service 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at Fewer’s Memorial Chapel Home in Clarenville.  A private interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers a donation in her memory may be made to the Vera Perlin Society or the Chron’s and Colitis Foundation of NL.

My condolences to the Denty family. Mrs. Denty always kept an eye open for us Viking Street kids growing up. There was never a question of going to the Denty’s house if you fell off your bike and skinned your knee. You were greeted with a warm smile, comforting words and a lot of love. I remember seeing her occasionally at Carlton Cards later on in life. I was met with the same smile and genuine interest in my wellbeing. The love for us “kids” was still there and made me feel as special as always. A terrific lady. Cherish your memories as I will as well. Love to you all.

A warm smile is the universal language of kindness. – William A. Ward

    Dear Fred and family,

What I remember most about Phyllis is the warmth of her beautiful smile. Whenever and wherever you would meet her, it was always there. If you went into Carlton cards, no matter how busy she was, she was always there to help with a gift selection smiling all the while she made suggestions. If you were in her presence at some of the functions of the organizations she was involved in, her face would be the brightest spot in the room as her smile lit up the space. If you stopped to chat in the COOP, she would beam as she talked about the latest accomplishments of her children. You could not help to feel better just by being in her presence as that special smile she had was infectious and uplifting. I believe her smile mirrored her kindness, compassion for others, and the love and devotion she had for family and friends. She was, indeed, a very special lady.

Tom and I extend to you and all the family our very deepest sympathy. We hope that your treasured memories bring you comfort in the days to come.

Sorry to hear of Phyllis’ passing.
I grew up across the road from the Blackmore family here in Little Bay East, but a 6 year age difference meant that we knew each other but not as close friends. Later when we both had married and had children ( I had only one at that time), and you were visiting your grandparents, Stephanie would come across the road to the big ,old Scott house to play with my daughter Karen. I only saw Phyllis a few times in later years, usually at Carlton Cards in Clarenville. .
My husband Clyde was Phyllis’ age and recently passed away on Dec. 5.
My sincere condolences to Fred, Stephanie and Stephen and their families on your great loss. Rest peacefully, Phyllis.
