Minnie Grace Hiscock February 9, 1939 - November 7, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Minnie GRACE Hiscock, age 85, at Heritage Square Retirement Living in CBS, on November 7, 2024, with her husband and sweetheart, Edward, by her side.

Grace was born on February 9, 1939, to the late Andrew and Evelyn Whiffen in Bonavista, NL. She was raised in a fishing family with her seven siblings and through the years she shared so many happy memories of growing up between Red Point and the Cape. After high school, Grace made her way to St. John’s for commercial training and often talked fondly of her work and friendships she made as a single young woman in the city. She worked in the office of Ayres Brothers and then moved along to the Main Branch of Scotiabank. Grace moved back to Bonavista in 1963 to be with her mother and help support her family after her father’s passing. It was there she met the handsome townie bachelor, Edward. They were married in Bonavista 1966 and moved Clarenville in 1970 where they raised their two sons, made lifelong friends, and became active and cherished members of the community until they moved into Heritage Square in 2021.

While raising her family and working at Scotiabank, Grace volunteered with various community organizations including the Clarenville Co-op, Clarenville Area Minor Hockey Association and the Clarenville Firettes. She and Ed volunteered with the school breakfast program, were active in the Pioneers association and stepped up whenever the community needed a hand. Grace and Ed enjoyed weekly seniors bowling and were active members and card players of the Hillview New Horizons Social Club. She loved camping, spending time at the cabin, travelling, berry picking and sipping Ed’s homemade wine. Grace loved to entertain and to be entertained, from parties to card games, enjoying a good nip for every occasion. Once the grandchildren came along, she and Ed would happily attend their activities and would travel to share holidays and celebrations with them, especially Christmas morning.

Grace was simply a beautiful person; remarkably kind and had a tremendous respect for people. Everyone she met was greeted with a smile and became her friend. Even as her health declined and she needed care, she was always pleasant and grateful, and staff noted how wonderful she was to care for. Grace’s beautiful smile and laugh will remain in our memories and hearts forever.

Grace is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Edward, sons David (Marsha) in Mount Pearl and Mark (Stacie) in Texas, and her cherished grandchildren Benjamin, Natalie, and Sarah Hiscock. Grace is also survived by sisters Gladys White, Bonavista; Gertrude (Clifford) Pilkey, Alberta; Ruby Whiffen-Tilley (Ross), Marystown; Hilda Lawrence (Fred), CBS and Anita Hampton, Bonavista; sisters-in-law Yvonne Whiffen, Mount Pearl, and Daphne Allhiser, Nevada, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and their children.

Grace was predeceased by her parents Andrew and Evelyn Whiffen, brother Harry Whiffen, sister Joyce Whiffen, brothers-in-law, Gord White and Carl Hampton, nephew by marriage, Terry White and in-laws, Russell and Peggy Cave and Lewis and Kay Hiscock.

The family would like to thank all the staff of Heritage Square for their tender care of Grace, especially the last several months as her health declined. We would especially like to thank Claire, Dr. Verge and community nurses Janice and Jennifer. Your compassion and love for our Grace and support to Ed will never be forgotten.

Cremation has taken place. We will gather for a graveside service at the Clarenville Interdenominational Cemetery on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. To know Grace is to know that she loved to be with people and thoroughly enjoyed a social gathering, and so we invite family and friends to gather in her honor and celebrate her life at 1:00 p.m. that same day at the Bill Davis Chalet at Elizabeth Swan Park, Tilley’s Road, Clarenville. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Grace’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of NL .
