Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family at the Health Sciences Centre on Monday, January 5, 2026, Maxwell (Max) E. Saint of Clarenville, formerly of Musgravetown, age 79 years.
Predeceased by his parents Alfred and Barbara Saint, father and mother-in-law Fred and Ethel Somerton, sister-in-law Elizabeth Mitchell and her husband John; as well as sister-in-law Una Brown.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of memories, his wife of 60 years, Hazel (nee Somerton); son Tony (Sherri), Rotonda West, Florida; daughter Tina (Jim), Clarke’s Beach; grandchildren Brandon, Matthew, Gracie-May, and Isaac; brother Tob (Ivy); brothers-in-law Fred (Sandra) and Hubert; along with a large circle of family and friends.
Max was a retired medical laboratory technologist and health care CEO whose career in health care spanned 32 years; and saw him employed at the General Hospital public health labs, the Janeway, Grace-General, Waterford, Western Memorial Regional Hospital and Notre Dame Bay Memorial Hospital, where he served as CEO for 14 years prior to his retirement.
In retirement, Max enjoyed traveling, RVing, hunting, and fly fishing; and he also became an accomplished furniture maker, a skill he inherited from his father. He also spent many evenings cheering for his team, the Montreal Canadians.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Critical Care Unit for their care and compassion during his stay; your support was greatly appreciated.
As per his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place with interment at Heritage United Church Cemetery, Musgravetown, at a later date. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to Heritage United Church in Musgravetown.
