Margaret Joyce Abbott (nee Howse) September 22, 1933 - April 5, 2021

It is with profound sadness that the family of Margaret Joyce Abbott announces her passing on April 5, 2021 at the age of 87. She passed peacefully at Lakeside Homes in Gander with her daughters by her side.

Predeceased by her parents Lindsay and Louise, husband William Albert “Albie”, and son Neil. Leaving to mourn with love and fond memories are her son Wayne (Marion), daughters Sharon (Carl) and Brenda, daughter-in-law Roberta; her grandchildren, Jessica, Brandon, Victoria, Sarah, Courtney and Anna; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Pearl and Lawrence and niece Doreen (Greg) and her family.

Mom grew up in Glovertown and after high school she moved to St. John’s to attend the Salvation Army Training College, where she graduated as a Salvation Army Officer. After graduation, Mom was stationed at Peterview Salvation Army Corps and later moved to the Charlottetown Salvation Army Corps where she met the love of her life, Albie. Together they had 4 children and were married for 64 years.  Over the years Mom spent lots of time baking goodies, playing beautiful music, and cheering for her team (Montreal Canadiens). Mom also enjoyed the great outdoors! She did a lot of moose hunting and had many boil ups in the woods with Albie and her children and grandchildren. Camping by far was her favourite summer pastime. For decades, Mom and Dad enjoyed camping every summer at their favourite spot in Deer Lake, where they played many games with family and the friends they met over the years.Mom stayed strong to her faith and loved to attend the Army and be a part of the Army community. She is a lifetime member of the Salvation Army Home League.  Mom’s faith, family, and friends were her life. Mom will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Thank you to all the staff at Lakeside Homes for providing Mom with excellent comfort and care during her stay.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be a private visitation, by invitation only, starting at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 8 at the Salvation Army in Charlottetown followed by the service at 2 p.m.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Charlottetown Salvation Army Corps.

Sharon and family. Although I had not seen your mother for many years I have very fond memories of her and your Dad. I met your Mom when she first moved to Charlottetown and I was visiting with my grandmother, Jessie Wilcox for the summer. She was a very sweet and kind person and we had many good times together.
My condolences to you and all your family.
