Lorna Gammon, age 71, of Queen’s Cove passed away peacefully with her family at her side while in the care of the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Joyce Coles. Left with loving memories her husband, Bob, of 22 years and her children Jason Dover (Missy) and Adam Dover, step son Philip Gammon, grandchildren Madelyn Dover and Carson Dover, sister Brenda Stanford (Ches); brothers Butch Coles and Graham Coles (Sheri) and a large circle of family and friends are left with a multitude of fond memories of a life filled with much laughter and love.
Lorna was a proud charter member of the Flying Blades Figure Skating Club in Clarenville. She began her working career at the Restland Motel restaurant in Clarenville and through her strong work ethic and her willingness to take risks she reached the financial towers of Toronto. In a career spanning more than 35 years with Royal Trust and RBC, she touched many lives and travelled the world from Rocky Mount, North Carolina to Hong Kong and to Sydney, Australia.
Upon returning to Newfoundland, she took great joy in assisting her niece Nancy at both the recitals and registrations for Nancy’s School of Dance. Lorna took personal time to volunteer, and a highlight was coaching hockey in St. Catherines, Ontario for more than 10 years.
Anyone who met Lorna knew that her family was her center and focus. Travel, both in her career and in retirement. gave her great joy, especially if a walk on a beach was involved.
Visitation will be held at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville on January 14, 2025, beginning at 12 noon followed by a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. at Fewer’s Memorial Chapel, Clarenville. A reception will follow the service at the Clarenville Lions Club, Legion Road, Clarenville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
Lorna and Bob have been so grateful for the whole team at G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Doctors, Nurses and Security People. Their friends in the Emergency Room will never be forgotten.
There will be a celebration of Lorna’s life to be held at the Clarenville Lions Club on May 24, 2025. Details to follow. Everyone will be welcome to tell stories, laugh, sing, laugh, cry and laugh some more.

January 12, 2025 at 12:46 pmI was saddened to learn from Bob that Lorna had left us. Both he and she were long time employees of Royal Trust and for much of their careers a part of Eastern Canada Region, where I got to know them. She was ardently loyal and a very active participant with many aspects of the evolving products or services provided to the clients we all served. Many of us counted on Lorna for her honest and direct feedback, but always done so with grace and a client first perspective. Bob, my personal condolences to you and your family.

January 12, 2025 at 1:43 pmMy sincere condolences to Bob and families. I am so very sorry to hear of Lorna’s passing. She was such a lovely, upbeat person and very kind. Lorna will be extremely missed. Lorna and I go way way back to when RT was starting up Financial Planning. We went to Toronto to take one of the courses and she was able to get tickets to a TV show (Air Farce I think) to watch a live taping. We had a lot of fun that week. So happy that I had just recently re-connected with her on FB messenger where we wished each other a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Sadly, I was not aware of her circumstances. RIP Lorna. Big hug!!
