Passed away peacefully at St. Clares Mercy Hospital, St. John’s on Thursday, November 27, 2025, Josephine Traverse of Southern Harbour, age 86 years.
Predeceased by her husband Jerome Sr; great grandson Kahlen Slade; son-in-law Kenneth Hickey; parents John and Bridget Best; siblings Patrick Best Sr., Esther Whiffen, Rhoda Whiffen, Catherine Hutchens, Malcolm Best, William Best, Violet Whiffen and Mary Ellen Lynch.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her children Anna Pevie (Calvin), Jerome Traverse Jr (Elaine), Tony Traverse (Violet), Pauline Berkshire (Terry), Regina Traverse (Al) and Madeline Hickey; grandchildren Gillian, Holly, Stephen, Leanna, Lorielle, Cally, Kenline, Emily, Katie, Zachary, Serena, Travis, Wyatt, Abbigail, Louis and Malcolm; great grandchildren Lily, Brie, Maci, Georgia, Dayton, Porter, Blaine, Fiona, Lila, Leroy, Austin, Brinley, Vayda and Dustin; sisters Cecilia Parsons and Martha Flynn; brother Alexander Best; and a large circle of family and friends.
Resting at Christ The King Roman Catholic Church, Southern Harbour. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, November 30 and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, December 1st, 2025. Funeral mass 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Christ The King Roman Catholic Church, Southern Harbour with interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Southern Harbour.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff at 3 North E at Pleasant View Towers, St. John’s for their kindness and loving care during her stay there.
