It is with great sadness that we all say goodbye to John Janes, who passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024, with his beloved Ada by his side at the Valley Vista Seniors’ Complex in Springdale, NL.
Jack was predeceased by his parents Henry Joseph and Louise; brothers George and Roger (Olive); sisters Vera Meenan (Robert) and Violetta (Babs) Ivany (Garland)
Leaving to mourn are his wife Ada (Warr) whom he met and married in 1957, brother-in-law Garnet Warr (June), sister-in-law Reta, dear nieces and nephews, close confidant and cousin Sadie Thistle, ‘sister to all’ Cassie, kind and loving neighbours Paul and Brenda Soper as well as a wide circle of friends.
Jack began his working career with CN and retired from Marine Atlantic. Jack was a self-made man with an independent spirit. He built three of their homes and he kept meticulous records. Their homes were warm and welcoming to everyone. He and Ada lived for several years in Riverview, NB and retired to Clarenville, NL in 1992 making lasting friends wherever they resided, especially when they wintered in Florida for over 25 years. Jack loved to drive and he and Ada did many summer trips with Ada’s brother and wife seeing remote and beautiful areas of Newfoundland.
The family would like to recognize the excellent attention provided to John by the Clarenville Retirement Home, by Golden Heights Manor, Bonavista and the wonderful staff at Valley Vista in Springdale. Dr. Todd Young, quite selflessly, has given John special care and kindness for a period of years since he was without a family doctor in Clarenville.
We thank Jack’s nieces Karen (Kent) and Betty (Paul), who live on the mainland of Canada but have kept family and friends close during a difficult time. We echo their sentiments that “Uncle Jack lived a very full life and we will all miss his humour, character, and love.”
Cremation has taken place with family interment at the United Church Cemetery, Marine Drive, Clarenville at a later date to be announced by Fewer’s Funeral Services.
Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to The Alzheimer Society of Canada.
