Janice Hiscock Davidson August 14, 1973 - January 8, 2022

Janice Hiscock Davidson (1973-2022) filled the lives of those around her for 48 precious years.  Leaving to mourn her life and legacy is her beloved husband of 24 years, Ian; her most cherished gift in life, her children, Morgan, Mya and Evan; her loving and devoted mother, Lorraine Hiscock (Porter); brother Paul Hiscock (Margaret); sisters Lynn Hiscock (Perry) and Heather Dunford (Joe);seven nieces and nephews, her parents-in-law Angela and Fergus Davidson and sister-in-law Cathy Forster (Jeff). Janice was predeceased by her father, Owen Hiscock.  Janice’s love was far reaching and her death will touch many extended family members and special friends in a profound and lasting way.

Janice was born and raised in Clarenville, NL. After seven years of post-secondary schooling, Janice earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Memorial University, and Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work degrees from the University of Calgary.  Janice was an exceptional social worker and throughout her career she touched the lives of many people, including those struggling with homelessness, mental health, and income security.  Her profession provided her with meaning and purpose, and she continued to work right up until her final days.

Janice and Ian enjoyed five wonderful years in Red Deer, Alberta before making the difficult decision to leave careers and great friends behind to return home to Newfoundland and Labrador to raise their family.  They built a happy home on Municipal Square with their three beautiful children and an incredible view of the Atlantic Ocean, which she loved.

Above all else, Janice loved her children fiercely – her courage over the course of her illness was a testament to the power of love.  She fought leukemia bravely for 13 years to see them raised, while making sure they lived a full life with positive memories of their mother.  Janice pushed through two stem cell transplants (she had a special place in her heart for her stem cell donor, Yves)and many other treatments with incredible courage, strength and grace.  During this journey, Janice was accompanied by a dedicated healthcare team who understood well her need to raise her children.  Through it all, Janice remained grateful for their support and the extra quality time the treatments provided, as they allowed her to enjoy and share her love and guidance to Morgan, Mya and Evan.  The essence of her life was her children.  The world will be a better place because of them, postcards to a future she will not see but will impact.

Janice had many loves and interests that included music, cross-country skiing, ice cream, blueberry picking, beach fires, hiking and travel. Most of all, Janice was a relationship person.  Being in the presence of family and friends were her most treasured times in life. She lived with gratitude for every special memory she created and inspired those around her to also cherish life.  People gravitated to her and were rewarded with a friend for life.

Janice was always grateful for the love and support provided to her family from her community, and she was very passionate about giving back. Janice inspired the establishment of Power to Hope and organized events to support Dr H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation, Terry Fox Foundation, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Young Adult Cancer Canada, Canada Blood Services and One Match.

Janice had a way of not just touching the lives of those around her but changing how they lived.  She inspired and encouraged everyone she met to embrace love, life and hope.  Once Janice came into your life, you knew you had a responsibility to be better, love harder and live every moment to the fullest. The lessons she taught, to those privileged to know her, will live on far beyond the 48 years of her life.

A funeral service and a celebration of Janice’s life will take place at a later date when Covid restrictions are lifted.  To honor Janice and her desire to be of service to others, donations can be made to Young Adult Cancer Canada (Donate to YACC – Young Adult Cancer Canada (akaraisin.com)) and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (http://Www.bloodcancers.ca)

Ian, Morgan, Mya and Evan, I am so very sorry for your loss. I wish I could say something to help ease your pain and fill that void. Janice was my coworker for 13 years. We attended retreats and conferences together and spoke many times on the phone. She was a fierce advocate, a compassionate Social Worker and truly worked for the better good. Satisfactory was not enough for Janice. She wanted the best for her clients and her family. She was so proud to be a wife and mother. She spoke lovingly of you all in every conversation we had. Janice was such a good friend. She will be missed terribly at work and in the community. I will treasure my memories of her. She inspired us all to do better and to be better.
