James A. Quilty October 15, 1954 - September 21, 2023

James Alexander Quilty passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at the Health Sciences Centre St. John’s Newfoundland.  He is predeceased by his parents Alexander and Josephine Quilty and cousin Dan Quilty. Left with a lifetime of loving memories are his sisters Patricia (Derek) Gosse, Cathy (Kent) Burt and his brother Anthony “Bud“ Quilty, nephews Donnie, (Treshana) Gosse, Colin (Marcela) Gosse, and Alex Burt, great nieces and nephews, Emily, DJ, Mia, Georgia, and Renata, great-great nieces Lettie & Saige, special friends Ned and Cavell Burke, along with many extended, family and friends.

Jim loved his family very much. This was shown through acts of affection, kindness, and generosity. Nothing was more important to Jim than the happiness of his nieces and nephews.

Jim resided in Labrador for many years, and often spoke fondly of his time spent with family and friends, while living there. Jim was an exceptional storyteller, and loved to share the stories of his life experiences with others.

We would like to thank the many staff at Western and Eastern Health who have assisted in Jim‘s medical care over the past two years. Of special mention are the staff at Cozy Quarters in Clarenville, who he spoke of affectionately, Dr’s Jackie Elliott (Cozy Quarters), and Evan Wee (GB Cross Hospital) and the team at the Health Science Centre CCU unit. We cannot express enough gratitude.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a date in future.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Thank you for your many thoughts and prayers.

Our deepest condolences to the Quilty family. Your loss is felt by many from the passing of your brother Jim. He was a great man and a very good friend. We have many memories with Jim and had more than our share of laugh’s over the years. Always had a smile and a little story every time. Time goes by so fast in these years of our life and we tend to loose close contact with the people around us but we never loose how we felt about them and how much it meant to us. He will surely be missed by each of us who have that special memory of Jim. That will never fade. Jim enjoy your new life on the other side and we will come and join you when the door opens for us. Rest in peace Jim.
