Herbert passed away at the Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavillion in Carbonear, NL on December 22, 2023 at the age of 88.
Born on June 17, 1935, he was predeceased by his first wife; Fronie and his second wife, Shirley.
Parents: Gladys (mother) Sandy (father)& Sarah (sept-mother) Brace; daughters: Gladys (Clyde) Osmond and Marie Lockyer; son-in-law John Lilly; sisters: Stella (Roland) Newhook, Mary (Lionel) Norris, brothers: Edward (Amy) Smith, Alex Brace; brother-in-law, Lawrence Bursey & sister-in-law Mary Brace; step-daughter Cathy Spencer and step-grandson Jamie.
Leaving to mourn, two daughters: Peggy (Robert) Companion, Middle Sackville, NS and Christine Lilly, Harbour Grace; one son: George (June) Brace, Little Harbour; son-in-law: Wayne Lockyer, Moncton, NB; stepdaughters: Donna (Rick), Port-aux-Basques, Linda (Greg) Corner Brook, NL; stepsons: Herb. Gary and Pat (Elaine), sister’s: Theresa Bursey, brother’s Bert (Louise) Smith, Don Brace. Grandchildren: Lynette, Bradley, Nicole, Melissa, Jonathon, Krista, Danny, and Amanda; nine great-grandchildren: Samantha, Shianne, Shayla, Cameron, Alexa, Rylan, Kaiden, Everett, and Shelby; 12 step grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He worked for hydro companies in NL for many years before moving to Moncton, NB where he worked for Heritage Court until his retirement. He wanted to go home and moved back to Newfoundland in 2014. Herb loved to hunt and fish, he so enjoyed spending time at the camp in Albert County, NB and had wonderful memories from his time there.
Cremation has taken place, a burial will be held at the Salvation Army Cemetery in Chance Cove, NL at a later date. Donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice.
