It is with sad and heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of a dear son, husband, son-in-law, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, cousin and uncle, just 10 days before his 95th Birthday. It helps to know though, that he peacefully passed away in his sleep and that he was ready to go, for some time now.
Predeceased by his wife Ruby; parents Irene Blanch and Jack Hann; son Fred; grandson Glen; brothers Gordon and Lloyd; sister Jean Sinnot and half brother Moodie.
Left with fond and loving memories his children Bill (Geraldine), Wanda (Brian), Donna and Craig; daughter-in-law Carol; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers Hayward (lucy-deceased) and Dave (Marilyn); sister-in-law Nellie Perry; special brother-in-law James Leyden and their families along with other relatives and friends.
On March 4th, 1931 Harold, was born in Buchans his parents were Irene Blanch (Harris) Hann and John (Jack) Hann: Brothers, Gordon, Lloyd, Harward, Dave and half brother Moodie Hann and one Sister Jean Sinnott. Harold and Ruby (Leyden) Hann both grew up in Port Blandford, NL at some point as teenagers they became a couple and were married on August 14th, 1952 by Rev. Perry at the old United Church. Ruby had all of the info above written down and in an envelope with Dad’s name on his for when he passed as she had for herself, Ruby on August 13th, 2021, she also included the following: Lived in Nan Hann’s Front Room and after one year we moved into our own 2 Story Home, Port Blandford and raised our family; Fred, Bill, Wanda, Donna and Craig and 26 years later built our new home.
Harold worked hard from a very early age, early teens at several sawmills in town but mostly Rueben Efford’s at about the age of 17, he went to Power’s Store and bought a hammer, as he grew older he did some carpentry and construction work and whet to work with Avalon Construction Ltd at some point in his late 20’s and eventually became a Supervisor with them and approximately in his mid-forties he started his own company, Hann’s Construction Ltd. In later years when he was about to retire, he got a call asking him to supervise construction at Hibernia, namely on the platform concrete and was there for approximately four years and then finally retired in mid to late seventies.
At cozy quarters one day, while taking with dad there in his room, he stopped mid-sentence when he heard a hammer outside and said I believe I hear a hammer and then went on talking, hear again and stopped and said “I did hear a hammer” and then said, “Boy, its some good, to hear a hammer.” Scripture says, “I heard a voice form heaven saying, blessed are the dead who die in the Lord henceforth and forevermore, for they rest from their labor and their good deeds follow them”. Harold was also a proud member of the Orange Lodge.
Resting at Alton United Church, Port Blandford. Visitation Tuesday, February 24, 2026 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Alton United Church, Port Blandford with interment to follow at the United Cemetery, Port Blandford.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jackie Elliott and Cozy Quarters Retirement Home for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Alton United Church, Port Blandford.

My family had the greatest respect for Harold. My dad Oscar and Harold worked for Avalon for years. Dad retired from Avalon at age 70. Harold had been working his own company for years by then. But dad always remembered Harold. He will be remembered for his good deeds. God speed old man.

I was so sad to hear of Harold’s passing. Harold and I go way back in business. I first got to know Harold when he worked as a foreman for Avalon Construction.
