Gwendolyn Muriel Gilbert May 8, 1930 - January 30, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gwendolyn Muriel Gilbert on January 30, 2026. Gwendolyn passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side.

Gwen had a deep love of nature and an undeniable green thumb. She spent countless hours in her greenhouse and tending to her many flower beds and plants, finding peace and joy in the world she nurtured. She also had a special affection for animals, especially the crows who visited her daily for the treats she faithfully provided. In recent years, her two beloved cats were her constant companions, remaining by her side until the end.

Over the past few years, Gwen’s great‑granddaughter Nicole developed an especially close bond with her. Nicole often took her on outings, shopping trips, and to get her hair done, simple moments that became treasured memories. Nicole cherished this time with her Nan, and Gwen thoroughly enjoyed every moment of their time together.

Gwen also treasured her daily phone calls with her longtime friend Georgina, moments of companionship and laughter that brightened her days.

Gwen was predeceased by her loving husband, Freeman and Sister Iris Barnes.
Left to mourn her passing are her children: Ivan Gilbert (Ruby) and Marilyn Howse (Randy). She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Karen Martin (John Kerr), Andrea Pretty (Derrick), Cindy Gilbert, and Trevor Gilbert, Shanna Howse (Cameron); great‑grandchildren: Nicole Martin (Jacob), Megan Carver, Kendra Beckett (Tim), Nicholas Gilbert, and Juliana Gilbert; and great‑great‑grandchildren: Gwendolyn and Logan Beckett.  Great Nephew David Wareham

Gwen’s circle of family loved her deeply and feel immeasurably fortunate to carry on her name. Her great‑great‑granddaughter, being named after her, brought Gwen immense pride. She leaves behind a tremendous void in the hearts of those who loved her, and she will be forever missed, cherished, and remembered.

Cremation has taken place; a private family service will be held at a later date.

May she now rest in gentle peace, reunited with loved ones who went before her, held in the embrace of angels. Her spirit lives on in every memory, every garden she tended, and every heart she touched.

To the family that Gwen left behind, I hope you are able to celebrate her long life and treasure the happy times she shared with you.
Gwen was my father, Baxter Beck’s first cousin and a wonderful friend to him and my mother, Vera. They shared many laughs together. I have lovely memories of Gwen over the years. The last time we talked, she shared her feelings for her family and the things that kept her happy every day. I will treasure that call. May your memories bring you comfort during this time of loss.
