Gerry Duffitt August 19, 1930 - September 25, 2024

Gerald Frederick Gordon Duffitt (Gerry –  to all who knew him) passed peacefully away on September 25, 2024 at   Pleasantview Towers at the age of 94 years.  Gerry lived a full and active life, with Rosalie, his devoted wife of 45 years and the love of his life, by his side.

Pre-deceased by his wife Rosalie, his parents, his brother Jack,  and sister Violet.  Left to mourn his loss and with cherished memories are his daughters Marion, Deanna (Wayne) Jeannine (Alex) , 5 granddaughters Leslie, Erin, Christina (Jamie), Jackie, and Kathryn (Eric), stepdaughter Betty (Paul), stepson Bob (Lyse) and step grandchildren David and Jill (Greg).

Gerry was a successful businessman who worked and played hard.  His business savvy earned  him the priviledge to live his life to the fullest and he absolutely did.   He was a master  pilot for 60 years and skillfully handled engine failures and harrowing situations.  He survived what would have been a fatal crash for others, and was able to walk away from the crumpled plane.

It was with great pride that he would recount his days on the Clarenville Town Council as a councilman and mayor.  So much so, that many of the staff members at Pleasantview Towers referred affectionately to him as “Mayor”! While he was happiest in the air or on the water with Rosalie as his co-pilot, he often said he was content wherever he was as long as he could look across the room and see her. Rosalie’s passing in 2021 left a huge void and we know he was waiting for this day to rejoin her.

Gerry also would often say one of his greatest joys was his three girls and 5 granddaughters.   He  was a devoted father and grandfather.   He delighted in boasting about his daughters and granddaughters and their accomplishments at every opportunity.

Gerry and Rosalie’s visitation is on Saturday September 28 between 2-4 PM.  A  celebration of their life will take place at 46 Cormack Drive following visitation.  A private internment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fighting Blindness Canada.
