Freeman Cox March 3, 1952 - February 6, 2026

It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Freeman Joseph Cox who passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on February 6th, age 73.

Predeceased by his parents, Leo & Esther Mary Cox, his mother and father in law Michael & Flora Mitchell, brothers William, Patrick, Eugene & sisters Elizabeth and Bernice.

Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of beautiful memories are his loving wife of 54 years Evelyn, sons Jamie (Jacquline) Jason (Sheena) Devin (Tammy) Darryl (Sharon) and daughter Alisha. His brothers Mike (Lorraine) and Leo (Sheila). His 5 grandchildren who he adored. And a large circle of family and friends.

Freeman was a man of great intelligence. His sharp mind and natural curiosity meant there was little he couldn’t understand, fix, or improve. If something was broken, chances were he could make it work again and often better than before.  A true hard worker, he devoted his life to providing for his family, problem solving and creating. He took pride in honest work and gave his best effort to everything he did, a value he carried with him throughout his life.  Music also held a special place in his heart. An accomplished guitarist, he loved to play not just for himself, but for others – sharing his gift generously on many occasions. His guitars were among his most cherished possessions, and through music he brought joy, comfort, and connection to those around him.  Beyond his talents and intelligence, Freeman will also be remembered for his humour. Conversations with him were never dull, often thoughtful, and frequently filled with laughter.

He is fondly remembered and deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. His wisdom & legacy lives on through his children, the music he shared, and in the memories we hold close to our hearts.

Visitation will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Terrenceville on Sunday, February 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Monday from 2-4 p.m.  Funeral will be Tuesday @ 1:30 pm St Joesph’s Church – Terrenceville with interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Terrenceville.

Our hearts are assuredly with Evelyn and her family this week. Freeman’s passing leaves us with feelings of dismay and sorrow. Yes, he was a friend of about 65 years and a 100% true one at that. He had a huge influence on me musically and thus music gave me something wonderful through my lifetime.
From playing drums, bass, or guitar he was a very gifted and intelligent member who also excelled at electronic repair. In fact, he probably fixed something in auto or appliances for most everyone in Terrenceville. I saw absolutely no negative signs in his character. He kind of always gave himself a challenge to improve whatever he wanted to do. I am proud that I had you nextdoor Freeman and you will be certainly missed. I guess that there will be warm musical moments when you meet Johnny, Bill, and Jack. God bless you and your family.
