Ernest William Reid October 5, 1923 - March 17, 2023

Ernest Reid, 99 years young, passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s after a brief illness.  Born in Tacks Beach, Placentia Bay, he resettled with his family to Arnold’s Cove in1966. He spent his later years in Conception Bay South and was a resident of Admirals Coast Retirement Centre in Kelligrews since 2007. 

 

Ernest was a lifelong learner with an innate curiosity and a phenomenal memory. He visited every nook and cranny of the island while working for CN putting up poles, and made friends wherever he went. He liked nothing better than sharing a whiskey and a story with friends and family.

 

Ernest is survived by sons Harvey (Jennifer) and Lloyd (Donna), daughter Sheila (Ken), grandchildren Juan (Sharon Anne), Andrea and Michael (Kayla), great-grandchild Austin, as well as his dear sister, Meta Beazley. Ernest was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Annie (Barrett) in 2019.

 

Funeral arrangements are in the care of  Fewer’s Funeral Home in Arnold’s Cove. Visitation will be on Monday, March 20, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, followed by internment at the Interfaith Cemetery.

 

The family would like to express great appreciation to the owners and staff at Admirals Coast for making Ernest’s later years with them truly wonderful.

    Admirals Coast has lost a great resident. Truly one or a kind and a pleasure to have known Mr Reid these past 16 years. He was easy going, friendly, helpful and never complained. He loved nature and the simple things in life. Always had a smile for us and an encouraging word. Mr. Reid walked and had a potatoe garden set out up last summer, with the help of his son Harvey. He is irreplaceable. We all loved him.

    My condolences to the family of Ernie, I have the pleasure of getting to know him over the past 5 1/2 while working at ACRC. He was just a kind and gentle man. We al know you would looking forward to turning 100 this year but god had other plans for you to return with you loving wife Annie. RIP Mr R. You will be missed by many

    To Harvey,Lloyd,Sheila,Aunt Meta and all the Family, Condolences to all of you on Uncle Erin’s passing.I always looked forward to visiting with him at Admirals Coast,He always had a story to tell or a conversation about his life of years gone by! I will miss our chats,!

    To the Reid family.You all are in my thoughts and prayers at this time.Uncle Ern was a special man,whom we have some wonderful memories off.Uncle Ern,used to work with my Poppy at thd CNT.First time my Pop asked Gary,when he met him was ,did he know Ern Reid.Gary said yes,that s my Uncle.Uncle Ern ,always poped in for a visit,after we moved to Holyrood and he moved to CBS.He was a wonderful man.Rest peacefully and fly high with the angels Uncle Ern,you have some special people waiting for you at the Pearly Gates.

    My deepest condolences to the Reid family. It was a pleasure to have known ; and cared for him in my 15 years at Admirals’ Coast (Night Shift) , he will be greatly missed! May he Rest In Peace.

    To all of Mr. Reid’s Family I sent sincere condolences on his passing . He was a wonderful friend with my Dad (Abe Dawe ) , they shared many a story and toddy!!. Last year I dropped off a cooked Turr to him , his face told me it was well appreciated. Rip Mr. Reid I will miss you in the hallways at Admirals Coast .
