It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. Harold Crewe, aged 69, on November 1st, 2021. He will be forever missed and remembered by his loving wife, Christine; children: Peter (Megan) and Julia (Roy); grandsons: Andrew, Gabriel and Isaac; brothers: Don (Joyce), Edgar (Gloria) and Frank (Jeanette); sisters-in-law: Joan Dawe (Harry) and Anne Tessier (Carl); as well as a large circle of close friends, extended family, and colleagues. Predeceased by his parents: John and Hazel Crewe; sisters: Mary Pelley (Aubrey) and Kathleen Crewe.
Harold was a man of many talents, passions, and had a heart of gold. He lived everyday to the fullest, taking joy in sharing his musical talent, sailing, skiing, and for many years providing medical care in a town he loved dearly. Most importantly, Harold was a caring and loving husband, father, papa and friend. Those that loved and knew him will grieve his loss for eternity.
Due to the current public health restrictions, the family will hold a celebration of his life at a later date to honor his wishes of a send off with good food, friends, drinks, and music.
Memorial donations can be made to MusicNL, the Junior Development Program through the Clarenville Nordic Ski Club, or The Gathering Place.

November 4, 2021 at 10:29 amWe were more than shocked to hear of Harold’s passing. We met Harold and Christine during our medical training. We started our medical practice in Clarenville in 1977 and we worked together for 20 years. Harold was a first-class family doctor and equally a decent human being. Even on gloomy occasions he brought cheer to the office with his wit and humorous sayings. The one that stuck with us is “I told you a thousand times, no, more than that, hundreds”. Rosemary, Brian and family, and I offer our sincere condolences to Christine, Peter, Julia and the entire family he loved. May he rest in peace.

Marg-o and I have a deep desire and absolute willingness to follow the injunction of Scripture where we are told to “bear each other’s burdens and thus fulfill the law (love) of Christ.” The news of Harold’s passing went through us like a knife. He, and all of you, are so special to us. Harold was not only our Doctor for decades, he was also our friend. His love, compassion and expertise helped keep us alive for years. We loved him as a friend and as our Doctor. As we have shared your joys as a family over the years, we now share your grief. Please be assured of our thoughts and prayers, and our availability. May God’s every Blessing overflow you as you face this unbelievable loss.
Edison and Marg-o.

November 4, 2021 at 2:34 pmI haven’t lived in Clarenville since the mid-1980’s and I have to say that I’m so sorry to read this news about the passing of Dr. Crewe. My Mom (Betty Wheeler) worked in that Medical office for a number of years and Dr. Crewe was my physician. I enjoyed chatting to him about guitars as well and he had such a calming and professional manner. My sincere sympathies to his wife and family. Hold on to the good memories and to the fact that he positively impacted thousands of lives.

November 4, 2021 at 5:26 pmI first met Harold when we formed the band Souls of Eternity, late changed to the Souls. Harold joined our group (Clayton & Jerome Pierce) in 1968 with our pal Max Piercey. Harold was an excellent guitar and organ player with our band which was popular in those days, playing a variety of music from rock, country and Newfoundland. He played with us until he went to university in 1972. Not only a great friend, Harold also was my son Leonard’s Godfather. When Harold came home to visit, we would get together for a jam session and enjoyed our time together. He was a wonderful musician, a true lifelong friend who we will miss dearly. Rest in Peace Harold….your friend Paul

November 7, 2021 at 9:14 amDear Crewe Family;
Flipping through the paper, I did a double take as I join the masses in my sadness & shock of NL losing a true class act!
Dr. Crewe was one of a kind, a gem of a human being. He was always so present in conversation and made you feel as if you were the most important person in the world. Clarenville was my favourite community to visit when traveling; I enjoyed every visit I made during my 10 years working in Pharma in NL because of Dr. Crewe (& his colleagues & friends.)
He was so much fun; he seemed to live everyday to the fullest. He was approachable, welcoming, caring, warm, smart, professional…and real…with no pretence. I recall his big, broad smile & his laugh that erupted from deep within him.
The last time we chatted, he was visiting Christine’s Mom, in St. John’s. He was wearing a cast on his arm/wrist due to an injury he sustained while bicycling, if I recall correctly. He took everything in stride. Truly an inspirational human being who set a great example simply in the manner in which he lived his life. He will be greatly missed.
My heart is breaking for his family & all who had the absolute privilege of knowing him.
“In the Rhythm of Life, we sometime Find ourselves out of Tune, but as long as there are Friends to provide the Melody, the Music
Plays on…”

Dr. Crewe had a multitude of Friends…may his Music
Play On…
