Dominic Leonard October 28, 1965 - June 11, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that the family of Dominic Leonard announces his passing on June 11, 2025, after a very brief illness. Dominic passed away peacefully in the Intensive Care Unit at the Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by the love of his family.

Dominic was a man of quiet strength and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He was predeceased by his parents, Dominic and Catherine Leonard; his oldest brother, Benedict; his brother-in-law, Francis Ryan; his nephew, Blair Ryan; and his father-in-law Baxter King.

Leaving to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are his devoted wife and best friend of 24 years, Jennifer, and his beloved children, Camron (Felicity) and Mackenzie (Jayden), whom he adored beyond words; siblings Peter (Carrie), Jerry (Trix), Hannah (Philip), Chrissy (Randy) and Helen; sisters-in-law Eileen Leonard and Nancy Burke (John), and mother-in-law Ruth King; his nieces and nephews; as well as two recent great-nieces and nephew Claire, Sophie, Jorja and Ben.

His love for his family was immeasurable, and nothing brought him more pride than watching his children grow. Just a few weeks before his passing, Dominic shared in a joyful family celebration for Mackenzie’s Grade 12 graduation, a day filled with laughter, pride, and treasured memories.

Dominic lived a life defined by hard work, kindness, and genuine love for his family. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation, always putting others first and never asking for anything in return. He was deeply grateful for all he had and always offering a heartfelt “thank you” for even the smallest act of kindness.

He found deep peace and joy in the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, enjoying a ride on his quad or skidoo, or simply going for a quiet walk in nature. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and selflessness, that will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A heartfelt thank you to Dominic’s family, Jennifer’s family and the dedicated doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists of the ICU at the Health Sciences Centre for their kindness and compassion throughout his illness. Your care and support will always be remembered.

Deepest sympathies to the Leonard family on this sad and sudden loss, and to all the friends and other shipmates Dom has left behind. I met Dom in my early sailing days, and was lucky enough to see him again and chat with him just a few months ago. Dom had one of those smiles and laughs you would easily remember, and was someone you could have a genuine conversation with. Thoughts are with his dear wife and children in the coming days as you navigate this difficult period.
