Daisy Belle Ellis (Stanley), of George’s Brook-Milton, passed peacefully away at G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the age of 87 years. Daisy was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She leaves behind a legacy of love and beautiful memories that will be cherished by all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, George Ellis, and her son, Bruce Ellis. She was also predeceased by her parents, Uriah and Anastasia (Holloway) Stanley, as well as her siblings, Elizabeth Bailey, William Stanley, and Eldred Stanley. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children: Edna (Nelson) Stanley, Edith (Cal) Phillips, Danny (Lovetta) Ellis, Audrey (Rick) Russell, Darren (Wanda) Ellis and daughter-in-law, Judy (Ellis) Soper. She will also be deeply missed by her many devoted grandchildren: Dominick Phillips, Charlene (Adam) Sinclair, Jennifer (Steve) Wiseman, Bradley Phillips, Todd (Vanessa) Ellis, Sonja (Mitch) Avery, Chantille (Paul) Templeman, Melissa Stanley (Tim Pardy), Stacey (Josh) Ho, Candace Russell, Skyler (Kayla) Ellis, Courtney (Brandon) Janes, Logan Ellis; great-grandchildren [Landon (Sophia), Gavin, Dalton, Savannah, Madelyn, Arianna, Willow, Nate, Micah, Cohen, and Jaye]; great-great grandchild: Ryder, as well as her large circle of family and friends(Scott Churchill) Daisy grew up in Georges Brook and married the love of her life, George, when she was only 18, going on to raise six children. Daisy’s life was characterized by a deep love for family and a genuine enthusiasm for the simple pleasures of Newfoundland life. She was a talented musician, renowned as an awesome accordion and organ player, and her home was often filled with the sounds of gospel hymns and Newfoundland music—a passion she indulged in daily. She was a wonderful homemaker who channeled her creativity into sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She was an avid berry picker, she loved the process of gathering and making jams. Daisy’s kitchen was the heart of her home; she loved to bake and cook meals, always welcoming a full house of family and friends. A talented gardener, she took immense pride in tending to her garden and picking fresh flowers. She was a woman of faith, attending church faithfully until her mobility declined. Daisy especially enjoyed attending concerts and cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their extra-curricular activities. The family would like to take this moment to recognize the immense support and loving care provided by her daughter, Edna Stanley, and son-in-law, Nelson Stanley. Daisy lived with them for the past 17 years, and the commitment they showed was extraordinary. Edna selflessly put her mother before anyone else, ensuring she always had what she needed. The entire family extends a heartfelt thank you for everything you have done over the years; their devotion was truly appreciated. The family also extends sincere thanks to the staff at G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville, and especially to two nurses who went over and beyond to provide so much love, care and support to Daisy and her family: Nilanthi Pathirana, RN and Krissy Fewer- Whalen, LPN. Flowers are gratefully accepted, as Daisy loved them dearly, or donations may be made in her memory to the NL Arthritis Society. Visitation will take place from Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville on Sunday, January 4th from 1-2 pm (family only) followed by public viewing 2-4 pm & 7-9. Also on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm for the public. A Celebration of Life Service will be held from Fewer’s Memorial Chapel, Clarenville, on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 2:00 pm followed with interment at the G.B.M. cemetery.
