Charl was a good friend during my growing up years in North Harbour. It was always a joy to spend time at their house as a boy. He was quiet and reserved but always very kind and ready to lend a helping hand. I remember asking him if he had some 10″ nails for a project I was doing. Without hesitation he gave me more than I needed. When I asked if he would prefer that I pay for them or replace them, he responded “deed you won’t do either”. RIP Charl.

My condolences to all of the Brinston family at this sad time. Of course, I’ve known Charl a whole lifetime but got a chance to chat with him a bit more in recent years on Mattco Crescent. He liked to talk about days gone by in the harbour and I enjoyed that too. Thinking of you all today as you say goodbye to a cherished family member.
