Georgina (Dumaresq) Jones (1931-2020)
Passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home in Arnold’s Cove on August 27, 2020, Georgina (Dumaresq) Jones, at the age of 89 years.
Predeceased by her husband Rev. Samuel L. Jones, parents Arnott and Selina (Barney) Dumaresq(ue), sisters Lily Dumaresque and Blanche Bridle, brother Clarus Dumareque and infant brother Stewart; brothers-in-law Percival, Urias Jones, George Dumaresque, Wesley Bridle, Lloyd Hobbs and sister-in-law Helen (Jones) Hobbs.
Leaving to mourndaughters Paulette (Garry) Greene, Peggy (Joyce), Pam, and Patty (Jerry) Regular; grandchildren Michael (Jeannine), Krista (Bob), David (Jennifer), Jeremy (Dakotah), Riley, Robin (Brian) and Jay (Beth);great-grandchildren Emily, Lukas, Quinn, Avery, Jack, Noah and Alexandre;sisters-in-law Jessie Dumaresque and Myrtle and Marjorie Jones;long-time friend Ida Masters and family; and alarge circle of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Georgina was born in L’anse au Clair, Labrador,and as a young woman worked a short time in Montreal before beginning to work alongside her husband in the Anglican ministry in Plum Point, Jackson’s Arm, Fogo Island, Heart’s Delight and Arnold’s Cove parishes, gathering cherished friendships that lasted her lifetime.She remained in Arnold’s Cove after their retirement and most recently enjoyed her new community of friends at the Golden Years Manor there.In recent weeks, she gratefully accepted thesupport of Carrie and Lisa.
She was a prolific sewer and knitter; people around the world wear her wool caps and socks or have one of her quilts on their bed, most importantly to her, those in need. Those who knew her would know how she loved to chatabout any topic from current events to family history. She had an amazing memory and was able to recount the history and names of people all along the coast of Southern Labrador and every other place she lived.
Flowers gratefully accepted or donations can be made to St. Michael’s Anglican church or the Community Cemetery Association. Visitation will take place at Fewers Funeral Home in Arnold’s Cove 7-9PM on Saturday, August 29, and 2-4PM and 7-9 PM on Sunday, August 30. Please check with Funeral Home Staff when entering for Visitation as the building has a 20 person limit at one time, also a mask will be required. Funeral arrangements by Fewer’s Funeral Home.Funeral service to be held on Monday, August 31 at St. Michael’s Anglican Church in Arnold’s Cove at 2:00 PM. COVID-19 restrictions apply. The service will have 100 person limit and a mask will be required. Thank you.
