Vernon was the son of a World War 1 veteran. Had his dad not been injured in battle and returned home to find the love of his life the world may never have been blessed with this charming, funny loving man with a wit so much faster than most. He could never go anywhere without running into somebody that he knew from somewhere, even as far away as Yellowknife it has happened. He worked for the Department of Transportation until he retired and through that job, he made many friends and made even more acquaintances. He was a very unique man. Probably one of very few who could say that he never met anybody who did not like and remember him when they met again (except of course his nieces and nephews whom he either teased or yelled at because they were messing up his yard).

While he loved gardening and carpentry there was nothing he loved more than his wife and family.  He held Nettie’s hand whenever he got the chance, even after almost 67 years of marriage. When he left this world, he left holding onto her hand, as if they were still teenagers. Heaven has gained an utterly amazing star and after his heavenly reunion is done, he will patiently wait until the Good Lord calls his “beautiful star” home to be by his side where they will spend eternity holding hands.

Resting at Fewer’s Funeral Home in Clarenville, Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 7:30-9 P.M. and Monday, October 2, 2023 from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Funeral service Tuesday October 3 @ 2:00 P.M. Shoal Hr. United Church.  Interment to follow at the United Cemetery, Palmer’s Lane.

Nettie,, Ed, Gary ,Derek,Bob and Giselle and all of your families we were so saddened to hear of Vern’s passing.. ?Vern had such a love for life and he could brighten any conversation. He was so young at heart… I’m not sure who had the most fun when he would carry on with children. He had quite the positive impact on them. He was fun, caring and just a great guy to be around. Nettie you and Vern were always a big part of our family in Musgrave.Harbour. We all looked forward to your visits every year. It always brings back wonderful memories to us. Unfortunately we are unable to make it out for the funeral but our thoughts are with you all today. Sending love and prayers from Curtis and myself.
