We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Tara Beth Robertson on October 15, 2024, at her home in Georges Brook-Milton, Newfoundland, after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Tara was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, on April 20, 1983, the daughter of Greg Robertson and Toni DeLorenzo. She graduated from Riverview Rural High School and then attended St. Thomas School of Social Work where she graduated in 2008 with her Bachelor of Social Work degree. In January of 2009, she began her career in Corner Brook, NL, working as a Child Protection Social Worker with Western Health. She demonstrated professionalism and a passion for helping others on the West Coast until moving to Clarenville, NL, in 2017. During these seven years in Clarenville, Tara continued her career in social work through her roles with Child Protection Services and as a Mental Health and Addiction Services Councillor with Newfoundland Health Services.
Tara developed many special friendships with her colleagues on the West Coast (“the West Coast crew”) and continued adding to this incredible network of love and support while developing new relationships in Eastern NL. Tara’s lasting impact on the communities she served and the field of Social Work is remarkably inspiring. She was hard working and dedicated to her role and profession; but most importantly, she had a special ability to make humans feel unique and valued. Social work wasn’t a career to Tara, it was simply her true calling and a testament to her compassionate supportive nature. Her charismatic personality was loved by all who knew her. With a sensitive understanding of human emotions, she brought peace and serenity to everyone she encountered even in her final days.
Tara is survived by her loving husband, best friend, and soulmate, Barry Smith; her 20-month-old son and her pride and joy, Nico; parents, Greg Robertson (Arlene, step-mom) and Toni DeLorenzo, Sydney, NS; sister, Leannah Robertson, Fort McMurray, AB; brother, Liam Robertson, Sydney, NS; niece, Sophia Anne Huntley, Fort McMurray, AB (with whom she shared a very special bond and loved like a daughter); godson, Lochlan Byrne, Halifax, NS; parents-in-law, Lindo and Bernice Smith, Chance Cove, NL; sister-in-law, Janice Smith, St. John’s, NL; grandmothers-in-law, Olive Smith, Chance Cove, NL and Ivy Pike (Bill), St. John’s, NL; and her besties, Susan Hall, Terri Brake, Janelle Frizzell, Brittany Parsons, and Lindsey Ranni. Tara has said that much of her emotional and mental strength has come from the deep bonds with these amazing five females – their friendship, love, and support all-encompassing. Also left to mourn are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Tara was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, David and Anne Robertson and her maternal grandparents, Benito and Rose DeLorenzo.
The family would like to thank the many healthcare professionals encountered throughout her journey, including: Dr. Dawn Armstrong and medical staff at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre in St. John’s, NL; nursing staff at 4 North B at the Health Science Centre, St. John’s, NL; Jennifer Barker, Community Health Nurse in Clarenville, NL, and the medical team at the G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville, NL. Lastly, our deepest appreciation and love to Dr. Gordon Stockwell, MD, in Clarenville – there are no words to truly express the gratitude felt by Tara and her entire family. Dr. Stockwell was there with the diagnosis and provided amazing support and friendship for the duration of the journey. He is a fantastic medical professional but what meant the most to Tara was the compassion and care she felt from him with every interaction. As a family, we are eternally grateful for the quality of care Tara received throughout the entirety of her battle with cancer.
Cremation has taken place. Under the direction of Fewer’s Funeral Home, visitation will take place, on Friday, October 18, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle, 14 Trinity Place, Clarenville, NL. A Celebration of Life will take place at the same location on Saturday, October. 19, at 1:00 pm. The recorded service will be available on Calvary Clarenville’s facebook page on October 19 later in the day. To leave a memory or condolence for the family, please visit www.fewersfuneralhome.com. To honour Tara’s commitment to giving back, those who wish to make a donation may consider the Reach Hub in Clarenville, NL ([email protected]), or a charity of one’s choice. There will be a Celebration of Life held in Sydney, NS, at a later date.
And as Tara loved to say “And on we go…”

October 16, 2024 at 7:24 pmSad news. Tara was much loved by those who knew her. Some say that cracks are there to let light come in.. Tara was such a positive beautiful lady that, though no longer with us in an earthly nature, , her spirit will surely live on in the light that she brought to the world . Her living spirit will be the light that, as she did for so many times for her clients, becomes the light of grace that will help heal the many broken hearts that mourn her loss today. Condolences to Barry, Nico, Greg and Tony and to the family members.

I was absolutely heartbroken to hear of Tara’s passing. I don’t have very many childhood memories without her in them and I think back on them with a smile on my face and love in my heart. She was an amazing person, great friend and she was taken way too soon. I’m so incredibly sorry for what you are going through and I send my deepest condolences and lots of love to you all. I hope you can find strength in each other and cherish your many memories together. She will live on in her precious Nico and you all have an angel watching over you. xo ❤️

Such a warm and gentle soul that made positive and lasting impacts on everyone she met! It was a privilege to have known her even if for a short amount of time. Sending my condolences, and love to those closest to her during this difficult time, especially Barry, Nico, her immediate family and close friends. May you have strength in the days to come, and take comfort in knowing that she is with you all, in all ways…still shining her light and love and cheering you all on! … And on we go…

So sorry to hear of your tragic loss. I too lost a daughter too young. Somehow you will get through this and all the good memories will push back the sorrow you’re feeling now. Her precious son will continue her legacy.

I remember Tara Beth as a beautiful, sweet little girl and from everything I have been told about her since then and from the messages in the condolences, nothing had changed. Her heart got bigger and her light shone brightly as she became the beautiful young woman you all knew and loved.
I know her memory will live on through the stories shared with her precious little Nico.
