Rick Keats July 5, 1963 - June 8, 2023

It is with broken hearts that Kristen and I announce the passing of a wonderful and devoted husband and father, after a courageous battle with cancer, Joseph Frederick Richard (Rick) Keats, age 59, of Bunyan’s Cove on June 8, 2023.Born on July 5, 1963, Rick was the beloved son of the late Shirley (Greening) and Howard Keats. Besides his parents, Rick was also predeceased by his son, Christopher in 1998.Left  with fond memories forever, his beloved wife of 34 years, Ruby Ann Keats, his pride and joy, daughter Kristen (Jacob Collins), and step-father Larry Keats. Also left to mourn his passing are his sister Barbara (Wesley Verge), step-sisters Kathy (Randy) Phillips and Glenda (Dave) Hobbs, and step-brother, Vern (Ramona) and Dale (Janice) Bath. Rick will also be sadly missed by his sister-in law Daphne (Gordon) Spurrell and brothers-in-law Hedley (Donna) Penney, Eugene (Lori) Penney and Lew (Linda) Penney, as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, as well as a large circle of friends and coworkers.Rick had a great passion for the outdoors and when he wasn’t working, he spent many happy hours in the woods, riding his Harley, quad and side-by-side. Those who knew Rick best knew he loved nothing more than putting others first. He had a heart of gold; he was a kind and generous person and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Resting at St. Paul’s United Church, Bunyan’s  Cove. Visitation is on Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul’s United Church, Bunyan’s Cove. Ruby and Kristen would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Dawson and the many countless nurses and other healthcare workers at the G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville who looked after Rick over the last 6 months.

Ruby, Kristen & the Keats and Penney Families:
After so many years, I still have a distinct memory of Rick as a young man who had many special qualities and shared them day by day. Because of this and I’m sure much more, your loss is great. May God give you the determination and strength to go forward with God’s peace and with the support of your friends and family. Kindest thoughts always, Rev. George Demmons
