Joan lived most of her life in Gaultois where she raised her family. After the passing of her husband in 2017, she relocated to Milltown, NL, and embraced the community with open arms, building many meaningful friendships and the companionship of Kenneth Willcott. Joan also continued to have a healthy social life through engaging with organization such as the Bay D’Espoir 50+club, local women’s dart league and card nights with her friends. Joan had a love for baking and cooking, and she shared that love generously, welcoming friends and family with home cooked meals and freshy baked treats.
In 2021, Joan received her cancer diagnosis and from there, spent considerable time in Clarenville with her daughter while receiving care. During this time, she fought a courageous battle with remarkable strength, grace and resilience. We are forever grateful for the love and support of family and friends who played an instrumental role in her life during this time. As well, the family would like to thank the staff of the Dr. G.B Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville and staff of the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic for their professionalism and care while she was a patient there. We would also like to thank Ms. Claudine Vivian for her compassion, care and joy that she brought to Joan during her final days.
As per her wishes, cremation has occurred, and a celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Daffodil House or the Canadian Cancer Society.

December 19, 2025 at 1:31 pmThough I met Joan when she was already sick, and didnt know her when she was well, the time we got to spend together was always bright and filled with love. She brought a light to the room that was unmatched, a true matriarch of love and compassion. And a model for us that carry the torch of family.
She welcomed Alice into her life with love, and without a second thought.
The stories Rachel would recant with her nan, while they both laughed together will always remain as cherished memories for our family.
Also, Alexa can now have a break from playing cupcake
