Aloysius (Al) Edward Brennan August 18, 1937 - June 25, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Aloysius (Al) Edward Brennan on June 25th, 2023 in his 86th year at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s, NL.

Predeceased by his parents (Ned and Elizabeth), sisters Mabel and Ellen, brothers Sam, Jim, Bill, Jack, and Ted.  Left to mourn wife Frances (nee Hennessey); daughters Annette (Duane) and Cathy; son Glen (Lisa); grandchildren Megan, Gillian and Quinn; sisters Nell (Roger) and Dot. Also leaving behind with precious memories are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a large circle of friends.

Born and raised in Summerville, NL, he lived most of his life there. In recent years, he and Frances lived in both Newfoundland and Ottawa to spend time with their children and grandchildren. He loved a good yarn and a political debate. After a long career driving a school bus, he still loved being behind the wheel and enjoyed many long road trips over the years.

The family wishes to thank Drs Smith, Warren, Martin, Andrews, and Mehta for the compassionate care over the years, as well as Dr. McPherson and the medical staff at Health Sciences Centre.

Visitation on Thursday, June 29th from 6:00-8:00 pm and funeral service at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 30th at St. Anne’s Church in Summerville, NL.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation or the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.

Funeral service at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 30th at St. Anne's Church in Summerville, NL.

We are very saddened to hear of Al’s passing. Our sincere condolences to Frances and family.
We drove cars with Al at the Avis car rental agency in Ottawa. Everyone loved his sense of humour. We both have very fond memories of Al, particularly when he worked with the weekend crew. That often meant taking the morning coffee break at Ottawa Airport, with coffee and an apple fritter for Al. A truly great guy, with a really big heart, who will be sorely missed. With fondest memories, Eileen and Glen McBrien

Dear Frances, my sincere condolences to you and your family. Al was one of my very favourite people to work with. His keen sense of humour and quick wit were much appreciated by his co-workers, and we knew he genuinely cared about us too. I’ll always remember the hospitality you and Al provided me when Hurricane Igor was soon to arrive, and Al’s exhortation to get going early that morning that Igor hit “the Rock”.
