Colin Pike January 31, 1929 - October 20, 2020

PIKE, Colin Bond, son of Alfred & Aurora (Quinton) Pike, passed peacefully away at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.

Predeceased by his wife Martha (Fry), son Wayne, brothers Herbert, Ross, Ches and Angus, sisters Hilda (Sis), and Marjorie. He leaves to mourn daughter in law Toni (Downs), grandchildren Stephen (Lisa Fudge), Heather Butler (Matthew), great-grandsons Hudson and Riley Butler, brothers Lee and Garland, and sisters Violet and Shirley.

At the age of 16, Colin went to work in the lumber camps at Terra Nova. Over the next 20 years he logged, fished, worked at the American base in Stephenville, worked on the railway, was the Post Master in Charleston, and wired many houses in Charleston and Sweet Bay.

At the age of 36 he attended school in Seal Cove and became an Electrical Linesman in Grand Falls with the Newfoundland & Labrador Power Commission – now Newfoundland Hydro. He continued his career with them until his retirement in 1989. In 1993 he sold his house in Grand Falls, and he and Martha moved back to Charleston.

After his retirement, he and Martha traveled all around Newfoundland. They continued this until Martha’s death. Colin continued to live in Charleston until he moved to a personal care home in Gander in 2018.

A family graveside service will take place at the United Cemetery, Charleston on Saturday, October 24, 2020.
